Fancy Ear

This post is all about our dog, Gladys.  I figured there weren't enough pet photos on the internet, and felt I needed to do something about that.  We named her "Gladys", which is obviously an old lady name, because we wanted a name that she could grow into and figured that name would continue to work better for her as she aged.

We don't know what kind of dog she is.  "A happy one", is how we usually answer when someone asks us that question.  She is a rescue dog.  Not in the crawling-through-rubble-to-find-you-after-an-earthquake sense, but in the we-adopted-her-from-ARF-when-she-was-a-puppy sense.  ARF stands for Animal Rescue Foundation, and it's one of many here in town.  They brought her to a local Petsmart one weekend, and we couldn't resist.

Anyway, she's amazing.  I am biased, of course, so I am including some picture of things at which, I feel, she truly excels.

Snooze #1

Here she is, fast asleep on the couch.  She is an incredible sleeper, which is pretty interesting, considering how active she is.  Just about everything she does, she does with gusto.  You can't tell from this photo, but she even sleeps with a fierce determination.  You could see it in her eyes, if they were open.  Which they are not.  Because she's asleep.

As further proof, here is another shot of her sleeping:
Snooze #2
You see?  She can't even be bothered to eat the dead fly that is right by her nose.  That is some serious dedication to sleep, if you ask me.

I'm not really sure what is going on in this picture.
"Daaaad!"
She's obviously yelling at me about something, that's for sure.  Probably because I won't stop taking pictures of her.  Or, her leash is too tight and she can't breath.  She might also be yawning, but only because she is bored with me taking so many pictures.

Here she is, pretending to mow the lawn.
I think our daughter taught her how to do this.  I'm sure that she convinced her that we pay allowances in dog treats.  Why else would she show me that she is capable of mowing the lawn?  Which, if you really think about it, is very brave of her - because she is terrified of the lawn mower.  What a trooper.

Lastly, I'm sure your dog gets this, too.  If you have a dog, that is.  Or any animal/roommate with soft, pliable ears.  We call it, "fancy ear".
Only 1/2 Fancy here.
Fancy Ear is a condition in which one, or both, ears becomes folded back on itself.  Often, this occurs spontaneously.  But if performed properly (sometimes requiring human assistance), it will stay like that for hours.
Ok.  Probably more like minutes (5, tops).  But that just didn't read as well to me.  I was only able to capture this photo of Gladys sporting a half-fancy ear.  A true set of full-fancy ears is quite a sight to behold, let me tell you.
